Wembanyama out of Spurs' NBA game against Blazers
San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will miss the team's Saturday NBA home game against Portland due to a left knee injury, the team announced.
In the club's afternoon injury report, the 7-foot-4 (2.24m) Frenchman was listed with knee soreness after suffering the injury in a Wednesday victory over the New York Knicks.
Wembanyama, who turns 22 on Sunday, hyperextended the knee but multiple reports said an MRI exam on Thursday showed no ligament damage.
Despite the good sign, Wembanyama did not travel with the team to Indianapolis for a 123-113 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
Wembanyama has averaged a team-high 24.3 points, a club-best 11.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and a team-high 2.9 blocked shots a game in 21 appearances this season for the Spurs, whose 25-9 record matches Detroit for second-best in the league.
Wembanyama, sidelined for 12 games by a left calf strain earlier this season, will miss his 14th game of the campaign on Saturday.
That means he can miss only three more contests the remainder of the season to stay eligible for the NBA's post-season awards.
The next chance for Wembanyama to return to the San Antonio lineup will be Tuesday when the Spurs play at Memphis.
