Cross-country king Klaebo warms up for Olympics with record Tour de Ski win
Cross-country skiing great Johannes Klaebo won the prestige Tour de Ski for a record fifth time on Sunday, a month ahead of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina.
The 29-year-old won three of the six stages of this year's World Cup event to add to his overall triumphs in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025.
Klaebo struggled over the line in 13th place on the sixth and final stage at Tesero in northern Italy on Sunday, with some sections of the 10km route at a challenging 28 percent uphill gradient.
Another Norwegian Mattis Stenshagen won the sixth stage on Sunday as Klaebo ended 58sec off the pace on the brutal uphill finale.
In the final standings Klaebo won the overall title by 30.1sec from Stenshagen with a third Norwegian Harald Amundsen at 1min 08sec rounding out the podium.
On top of five Olympic gold medals, Klaebo has 15 world championships titles and 114 World Cup wins.
