Inter Milan laud veteran Mkhitaryan after deal extension
Inter Milan's Armenian international midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has extended his stay with the Italian champions by a further season, the club said on Wednesday.
While Inter have let go three players over the age of 35 in Yann Sommer, Alessandro Acerbi and Matteo Darmian, the club posted a snap of the 37-year-old Mkhitaryan in his Inter shirt and wrote simple "the journey continues" with "2027" written beside it.
"His maturity in reading the flow of the game, knowing when to slow the tempo and when to drive the team forward, made him an integral part of the team from his very first season," Inter said on their homepage.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk, Dortmund, Man Utd, Arsenal and Roma has been part of Inter squads that won two league titles and made it to the final of the Champions League twice.
Inter said the player added "experience, leadership, a winning mentality, and unwavering composure and control in midfield, outstanding technical quality and exceptional tactical intelligence."
Mkhitaryan could be useful in a multi-lingual dressing room such as that of Inter Milan as he speaks eight languages, Armenian, French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, English, German and Italian.
Christian Chivu's Inter begin the defence of their Scudetto title on the weekend of August 22-23. Chivu himself signed a one-year contract extension with Inter just last week after guiding them to a league and cup double in his first full season as a senior coach.
